LINDA M. LUTHER
SEPTEMBER 2001
I saw a soldier passing by
with a tear falling from his eye.
He thought he'd let his country down
when towers came tumbling to the ground.
I saw a fireman passing by
with tears streaming from his eyes.
He'd lost his buddy in the flames
and continued to call out his name.
I saw a husband passing by
and was trying not to cry.
He had to be strong for children near
whose mother was no longer here.
I saw an eagle passing by
with a tear drop in its eye.
He soared out to the Lady in the bay
to find that she survived this day.
I saw a soldier passing by
in a casket while his nation cries.
Three years and still the fight goes on
as we remember September, 2001.
