CHILDISH WAYS
It is darn good to be childish,
It is revitalizing to be silly.
As age is simply a number,
a state of mind,
an arbitrary figure,
most are compelled to play along,
go along with its folly;
fearful of appearing foolish.
Yet some of us,
the prudent ones,
mock it
and continue to climb trees,
toss pebbles across lakes,
fly kites on blustery days,
marvel at dancing butterflies
revel in the simple, perfect beauty of flowers...
and giggle heartily for no obvious reason.
Even if health fails me,
I shall continue to dream and imagine such joys –
For I understand,
as long as I long for these things,
I am truly, truly alive.
And if you don't believe me,
I am going to hold my breath
until you change your mind.
