SILENT VETERANS

Quiet brings peace of minds, we are veterans
Homeless on the highways,
Young and old veterans are mourning their loss.
Late afternoons brings somber peace of mind,
The roads are getting colder through the winter snows.
Trees have shed their leaves, fall has gone,
The winds are fierce and chilled the night airs,
Silence of the veterans on the roads.
Remembering the past, Nam, jungle heat and mortar blasts,
Screaming soldiers of the war, not pleasant but human wrath,
Memories are vast,
Silent veterans make their unknown paths,
Homeless, lost spirits, we survive the silence of the past.

This poem is dedicated to all the homeless veterans I have known,
and to the souls who are still searching for peace.
