THE THREE THOUSAND

Cranes amid smoke and burning rubble
Searching for lost souls in that hell
Tears caress my cheek and stubble
Over three thousand, tolls the bell

They claim Jihad to justify their hate
A blackness deep as a well
In a better place so many wait
Over three thousand, tolls the bell

Our heartfelt resolve is so immense
Tales of our retribution, posterity will tell
Why are we spurred to such defense?
Over three thousand, tolls the bell

God in his mercy eases the pain
We ache less for those who fell
But we won't forget those who were slain
Over three thousand, tolls the bell
