DREAMS OF NAM
Vividly in color, they appear almost every night
Leaving me momentarily devastated in fright
Reaching for my weapon, quickly I awake
To a room full of stillness and gently I shake.
My bedroom light verifies there's no one but me
Only in my dreams lie these terrors I see
That war in Nam has long since gone
I am finally in America and safely at home.
These are only dreams from yester-year
There is no danger; I should have no fear.
God, help me make it through another night
Please, illuminate my soul with your light
For in the darkness of my mind and soul
Lies a beast that I can barely control
God be my "Point Man" and show me the way
Guide my steps safely and leave Nam far away.
