HEROES
Once more a war is over
Our boys are coming home.
Our country is behind them
So they'll know they're not alone.
Crowds line the highways,
Words are spoken in their praise.
My mind begins to wander
To the troops of bygone days.
I wonder how they're feeling
Watching all of this unfold.
Now I wrote this little number
So our story could be told.
Stand tall Vietnam Veteran,
You can hold your head up high,
Some of us still feel the pain,
Don't be blue and don't you cry.
We were strong and true Diggers
At the time they let us fall.
You should go down in history,
As the bravest of them all.
I was there and I recall,
When we were even called a fool,
I'm still stunned by the memory,
How our World could be so cruel.
Please take heart in the knowing,
That in the end you did win.
No other valiant Digger,
Will know such pain again.
Hail to our unsung heroes,
For a lesson you have taught.
Because of you they now make sure,
No brave Digger is forgot.
Find a brother from Timor
Go and boldly shake his hand.
At last heroes together,
Side by side the two can stand.
